Police respond to fight at a Salinas city councilman’s home Thursday

On Friday, Salinas police responded to a Salinas city councilman’s home after reports of a fight Thursday night.

It happened at the home of Jose Castaeda who told NewsChannel 5 he was forced to defend himself.

Castaeda said he doesn’t personally know the man he got in a fight with, but said Thursday’s encounter wasn’t their first.

Despite Castaeda confirming the physical altercation, police won’t release the names of the men involved, stating both claim to be victims.

Castaeda said a man who he claims he doesn’t know showed up to his parents’ house in East Salinas.

He said he kicked him out and that the man got aggressive and swung at him.

Castaeda said once he got him off the property, his attacker went at it again and even spit on him. He said he tried to protect himself.
