Monterey murder suspect makes first appearance in court

Matt Huntington has only been out of the hospital one day and was in front of a judge today. He’s accused of killing his girlfriend, Tara DeSousa.

Huntington was supposed to be arraigned today on murder charges after being in a coma for weeks. Witnesses said he jumped off a roof just blocks from where DeSousa was found stabbed to death.

After coming out of a coma, prosecutors said Huntington seemed alert but was using a walker to get around. He did not enter a plea on Thursday.

The judge said he knows Huntington’s family but has not had contact with them for 20 years. Nothing was said about whether he will remove himself from the case. Huntington’s bail is set at $1.15 million.
