Monterey murder suspect out of hospital, booked in jail

On Wednesday, Monterey police said murder suspect Matt Huntington was released from Natividad Medical Center and is was booked into the Monterey County Jail.

The Monterey County District Attorney’s Office has charged Matt Huntington, 44, with first-degree murder. He’s accused of stabbing Tara DeSousa, 50, in her Monterey home on Jan. 28.

Huntington was in a coma for about two weeks after running from police and jumping off a single-story building at Lighthouse Avenue and Reeside Street.

The DA’s office said he was scheduled to be arraigned on Monday, Feb. 2 but it was continued.

Pictures from Facebook show Huntington and DeSousa in a romantic relationship. Monterey police said the two were dating before she was found stabbed to death at her home on Laine Street.
