Police: Attempted murder, man shot in the arm Tuesday night in Salinas

A 26-year-old man was shot in the arm Tuesday night, Salinas police said.

It happened on on the 700 block of Elkington Avenue just after 8:30 p.m. Police said the victim was on his cell phone in the front yard of a house when a a vehicle drove up.

Police said the front passenger opened the door, had a handgun and fired multiple times, striking him in the left arm. The vehicle fled northbound on Elkington, police said.

The victim was taken to a nearby hospital and is expected to recover, police said.

The vehicle is described as a charcoal gray Nissan four door with paper plates, police said.

There is no further suspect information.
