Salinas firefighters investigate smoke inside Old Town business

On Monday, the Salinas Fire Department said it investigated reports of smoke inside the AT&T building in Old Town Salinas around 12:45 p.m.

Firefighters said employees reported the information and crews upgraded their response to a structure fire as a precaution. All employees were evacuated.

Five engines and a ladder truck were sent out to investigate the building on Pajaro Street between Alisal and San Luis Street. That portion of Pajaro Street was closed to make room for firefighters and their equipment.

Crews said they determined the smoke was caused by a faulty HVAC motor on the ceiling.

Salinas police removed the roadblocks just before 2 p.m.
