Soledad police investigate first homicide in two and a half years

UPDATE: Soledad police said one man was killed Sunday night during a shooting at Blas Santana Park near Barcelona Street and Mirada Street.

Officers said victim Vincent Guerrero, 44, was found lying face down on the sidewalk and appeared to be suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

Medics pronounced Guerrero dead at the scene. Officers said they don’t know the motive yet and will continue their investigation.

Anyone with information on this case is asked to call police.

PREVIOUS STORY: Soledad police said officers responded to a report of shots fired just after 7 p.m. Sunday near the corner of Prado and Mirada streets.

When officers arrived, they found a Hispanic man, possibly 30 to 40 years old, lying outside a restroom at Blas Santana Park, police said.

Paramedics pronounced the man dead on the scene, police said.

Witnesses told News Channel 5 they heard multiple shots fired and saw two suspects dressed in black run away in opposite directions.

Police have not released any suspect information and it is unknown if the shooting is gang-related.

Monterey County deputies were patrolling the streets while the Soledad Police Department investigated

This is the city’s first homicide of 2015 and the first homicide in the last two-and-a-half years, police said.
