Club 15 brings cheer to Pro-Am golfers for more than a decade

With the traditional silence during a backswing or the faint sound of a golf clap, there’s been a “rowdy crowd” making a lot of noise at the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am for over a decade. NewsChannel 5 found out Saturday what makes Club 15 unique.

For more than a decade, Club 15 members said they’ve considered themselves professional fans for amateur golfers.

“We just keep bringing the support for the amateur, every year, after and after,” member Steven Kasper said.

That support, which comes in the form of cheering and encouragement, started in 2004. On every Pro-Am Saturday since, members gather at the 15th hole, wearing matching T-shirts and other accessories.

“This is a first year thing. The Monterey Peninsula Foundation is actually, Steve John, he’s the CEO, he gave us this couch this year, because he wants to support club 15,” Kasper said.

Actor Bill Murray is also a supporter.

“We love him, and he always supports us,” Kasper said.

Murray even teed off at hole 15 using one of the member’s clubs.

“It’s exciting, it’s infectious, and Club 15 is on the rise,” founder Scott Larson said.

From founders to newcomers, the group gets bigger and louder every year.

“I definitely hope I can come back next year,” new Club 15 member Cassidy Hollowell said.

One of the founders said the group has grown from 12 members to 1,200. While cheering is members’ trademark, they also respect golfers who ask them to be quiet.
