49ers beat Giants in Chevron Shootout

Hundreds of fans were at Pebble Beach Tuesday to watch their favorite non-golf pro athletes tee off in the Chevron Shootout: 49ers vs Giants. and they didn’t disappoint.

The 49ers defeated the Giants but it came down to the wires with a chip-off on the 18th green.

49er legend Dwight Clark again came through in the clutch just like he did with “The Catch.” They were part of the team that won five Super Bowls.

Fans lined up for autographs before the six former 49ers, including Jerry Rice and Harris Barton, and the six current Giants including Matt Cain and skipper Bruce Bochy.

Steve Young and Buster Posey made their debut at the shootout and tournament organizers said they definitely brought bigger crowds.

“That’s what brings us out to be honest with you…If it wasn’t for the charity we would all go play somewhere else quietly but it is for the charity and we really enjoy doing that,” said Young.

Posey was also excited to be at Pebble Beach and play the iconic course, “I think it helped I got to play this morning I’m not saying it will make it any better but it might help with some of the nerves…I’m excited to be out here I’m excited to share this experience with Giants fans. We got great passionate fans and I’m sure they will be in full force out here.”

49ers captain Harris Barton had to sport Giants colors after losing to the team last year.

Before the shootout fans were also treated to a photo-op with three World Series trophies and five Super Bowl trophies on display.
