Highway 1 clear near Big Sur

Highway 1 is now clear through Big Sur, however some areas further south remain closed.

Portions of the highway from Coast Gallery in Monterey County to Ragged Point in San Luis Obispo County were closed overnight and early Friday.

The road closure was due to multiple rock slides and mudslides in the area. Crews were on scene Friday morning assessing damage and clearing debris from the roadway.

Hard closures are now in place between Gorda and Ragged Point until at least Saturday morning, this is in San Luis Obispo County.
