Deputies release security video of suspect in vandalism

The Santa Cruz County Sheriffs Office released a surveillance video of what appears to be a woman who vandalized the door of a mosque in Live Oak.

The video shows the woman wearing a hooded sweatshirt, walking up to the front door of the Islamic Center at 1:40 a.m. Deputies say the letters “SC” are printed on the left torso of her sweatshirt and she is covering the bottom half of her face.

Sheriff deputies say an unidentified person spray-painted the Star of David and the number 26 on the front of the mosque. Deputies also say they are investigating it as vandalism and a hate crime. They say it is unknown what the 26 spray-painted on the door means.

Deputies say the damage to the door is estimated at $50.

The sheriff’s office is asking anyone with information to call the sheriff’s office dispatch at 831-471-1121
