1 person dead after shooting in Seaside involving a police officer

The Seaside Police Department has confirmed the death of 27-year-old Nestor Cruz-Ciriaco after a shooting involving one of their police officers Saturday.

Cruz-Ciriaco was taken to Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula in Monterey with gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead.

The officer was responding to a domestic disturbance on the 1600 block of Laguna Street just after 5 p.m. Saturday which led to a shooting, police said.

Investigators for the Monterey County District Attorney’s Office have taken over the investigation into the shooting. Seaside police will perform an administrative investigation.

The officer involved will be on paid administrative leave, which is standard procedure after an officer has been involved in a shooting.
