Armed robbery at John St Mini Mart in Salinas

The Salinas Police Department responded to a call of an armed robbery at the John Street Mini Mart Sunday.

At 12:06 a.m. officers say a Hispanic male, approximately 18-years old, wearing a black hoodie and black face mask entered the store on the 200 block of John Street and demanded money.

The 59-year oldclerk didn’t resist andgavethe suspectall the money in the register according to police. The suspect struckthe victimin the face with a pistol and fired one round into the screen of the surveillance monitor before fleeing Northbound on Front Street.

The camera and recorder were not damaged and a large caliber casing was recovered at the scene.

Officers say a California Highway Patrol helicopter assisted with the search, but were unable to find the suspect.

The surveillance video was taken to the police department for processing.
