Seaside community mourns young man killed in shooting.

“Isaac was a good kid. He was full of life and extremely talented. He liked to rap.”

That is Monterey Bay Christian Center’s youth pastor Abby Sterling. She talked to NewsChannel 5 Monday after visiting with Isaac Iglesias’ family at the home he grew up in. NewsChannel 5 learned that the 23-year-old was a big family man, and that since he was shot last week, about 100 people had visited his family in the hospital.

Iglesias was the youngest of four siblings and Sterling remembers that his size always fooled people about what he was really like, “Just a big teddy bear.”

Sterling met Iglesias when he was just a sophomore in high school seven years ago.

She said he was an adult leader for kids at the church and did Christian rap shows for church concerts, “He’s just who you went to when you needed a big hug…..So he was a good kid.”

Also known as “Big Izzie” Iglesias went to Monterey High School and was musically gifted but had a passion for rap and was working on a career in that field.

Sterling said quick arrests by the Seaside Police force goes along way to getting justice for Isaac, but she says the 23-year-old left a lasting impression on his community and that kind of healing will take time.

“I know they’re devastated. You know they feel like a part of their heart has been ripped out. So this is hard,” said Sterling.
