Heads up citizen helps catch suspected Marina tire thief

Marina Police say an alert citizen helped catch a burglar at a local business early Monday morning.

The witness say what they considered to be someone acting suspicious near B&C Auto Sales just before 6a.m.

The citizen was passing through the area and saw a man in the parking lot of the business that appeared to be stealing tires off a vehicle.

Officers responded and located a 31-year-old Fernando Narrez still on the property with a vehicle that had three of it’s four tires removed.

The suspect took off running and a chase started. Eventually a perimeter was set up and a canine from the Monterey County Sheriff’s Department was called in to assist Marina officers.

The suspect was found in an apartment complex a short distance away.

Narrez’s truck was also located abandoned in the parking lot adjacent to the auto sales business with two stolen tired nearby.

The Watsonville resident was arrested for grand theft and resisting arrest. He was also found to be in possession of methamphetamine and narcotics paraphernalia at the time of his arrest and booked into the Monterey County jail.
