Search for Salinas burglar suspect locks down school

A woman called police Wednesday morning after she said a man broke into the home armed with a knife.

The woman was at the house at 6:15am on Belmont Dr. with her daughter when Salinas police say 18-year-old Treyshaun Holmes broke in. He ran as officers were responding to the call and was spotted soon after on Central Ave. Police later learned after an extensive search that Holmes had gone into a back yard to hide and discovered a back door to the home was unlocked. Investigators say Holmes burglarized that home as well while the family was asleep inside.

About 30 minutes later, callers began reporting that a suspect matching Holmes’ description was walking in the area of Marion Dr. with his pants down, exposing himself.

The search was back on and eventually found Holmes on the roof of a home.

He jumped from the roof into the rear field of Washington Middle School causing police to lock down the school as the search continued.

Holmes was eventually captured in the back yard of a house on Clay St. and the school lock down was lifted after about 15 minutes.

Police say Holmes was found with the property he had stolen from the house on Central Ave.

Holmes was booked in Monterey County Jail on multiple charges including residential burglary and trespassing.
