Fingerprint leads to arrest in Aptos burglary

A fingerprint collected from the scene of a burglary in Aptos led Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s deputies to the suspect.

Deputies were dispatched to Suzie’s Flower Shop in Rancho del Mar on Oct. 9 for reports of a burglary. Sometime between the night prior and that morning, someone had entered the shop. The person stole bags of receipts and broke into the cash register and took change. No cash was taken because the employees empty it every night.

Fingerprints left on the broken cash box matched Eric Olsen. The Aptos resident, 37, was arrested on Halloween in the Rancho del Mar Shopping Center for unrelated drug charges and a probation violation.

Deputies say Olsen confessed to the breaking into the flower shop through an unsecured window.
