Santa Cruz businesses prep for Giants fever as World Series comes to a close

Fans all over the Central Coast have been prepping for what is sure to be a nail-biter of a final World Series game between the Kansas City Royals and the San Francisco Giants.

At KC’s Sports Bar in Santa Cruz, the cooks started prepping at 9 a.m. Wednesday.

“We’ve had to restock Red Bulls, restock way more beers,” said bartender Steve Bliss. “Our kegs are all dialed in.

Even with last night’s Giants’ loss, staff at the bar say business was flowing.

“We had a lot of people in here,” said Bliss. “We had a full house packed to the brim.”

The ratings haven’t been kind to the World Series so far, but you wouldn’t know it here in Santa Cruz, he says.

“We’ve got 26 televisions and every seat in the house has a great view,” said Bliss. “Yeah, this is the spot to watch the games.”

With baseball also comes superstition and Bliss says some fans have come back to the bar for every game of the series.

“A lot of people need their exact seat, ‘i sat here for the wins, i have to sit here’,” he says.

Meanwhile, the kegs are double-stacked and the oven is fired up. The World Series has been good to business even 1,800 miles away in Kansas City.

According to one of the bartenders, when the Giants start to rally, that’s when the most beers get ordered — mostly the orange-looking beers.
