Hollister woman gets 9 months in federal prison for stealing from employer

A Hollister woman is facing nine months in federal prison for wire fraud.

Briana Irene Roy, 38, pleaded guilty in May to one count of wire fraud for embezzling thousands of dollars from her former employer.

Prosecutors said that between March 2010 and February 2013, Roy stole or attempted to steal more than $200,000. At the time, she was employed in the marketing department of a San Jose-based engineering firm. She devised a scheme in which she used a company credit card issued in the name of one of the executives to make charges to her personal PayPal account.

In her plea agreement, Roy admitted she tried to cover up the embezzlement by generating fake invoices and receipts for products and services in the name of another San Jose business.

As part of her sentencing at federal court in San Jose Tuesday, Roy was ordered to pay nearly $200,000 in restitution. She also was sentenced to three years of supervised release.
