Salinas police arrest man they say had gun, methamphetamine

Salinas police arrested an 18-year-old man Tuesday morning after witnesses reported seeing him throwing hand signs and yelling at passersby.

Witnesses kept an eye on the man while staying in contact with police dispatchers and providing updates. A Salinas Police Officer was waiting for a tow truck on an unrelated call near Alma and Williams spotted him and guided other officers in to make contact.

When contacted and asked if he had anything on him, Christian Torres dropped to his knees, placed his hands behind his back and told officers there was a gun in his jacket.

Police found the gun, along with a small amount of meth and a meth pipe. Torres was booked into Monterey County Jail on suspicion of drug and gun charges.
