Low-cost pet adoptions offered this weekend in Santa Cruz, Monterey counties
If you’ve been thinking about adopting a new furry or feathered friend, this weekend could be a good time for it.
In honor of the San Francisco Giants being in the World Series, the SPCA for Monterey County is hosting “the World Series of Love” this weekend.
On Saturday and Sunday, all cats, kittens, puppies, dogs, small pets, chickens, roosters, geese, ducks, quail, pigeons, and doves may be adopted for any price you choose.
SPCA adoptions include the pet’s spay or neuter surgery, permanent microchip identification, vaccinations, SPCA ID tag, a health evaluation, and lots more.
The SPCA is currently caring for 140 adoptable pets.
The SPCA is located at 1002 Monterey-Salinas Highway, across from Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. Adoption hours are 11-4 on weekends.
This weekend is also the 4th annual Halloween Hoedown at the Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter. From noon to 2 p.m. at their facility at 2200 &th Avenue, there will be a pet costume contest, special adoptions prices, a raffle and more.
All animal adoptions will be $31 in honor of Halloween. All adoptions include spay/neuter, microchip (including registration), age appropriate vaccinations, Felv/FIV testing, routine treatment for fleas/worms, and a free pet wellness exam with local participating veterinarians.
The pet costume contest begins at 1 p.m. with a $5 entrance donation. “Celebrity” judges will award prizes for Best in Show, Best Pet/Handler Combination, Best Use of Unique Feature and Best Santa Cruz Special.
