Resident averts burglary by pushing Morgan Hill man through window

A 33-year-old man was arrested early Saturday morning after a resident reported seeing him trying to climb in through her bedroom window.

A resident of the 500 block of Edmundson Drive in unincorporated Morgan Hill told sheriff’s deputies she was awakened just before 3 a.m. by the sound of someone taking the screen off her bedroom window.

The person took the screen off, pushed the blinds aside and started to climb through the window. When he was about half-way into the room, he saw the resident and asked her if anyone else was inside.

She pushed the suspect, who deputies identified as Steven Hather, back out the window and closed it.

Hather ran south from the residence towards LaCrosse Drive in the city of Morgan Hill.

While Santa Clara County Sheriff’s deputies were searching the property for Hather, Morgan Hill Police Department was dispatched to a suspicious person call on La Crosse Drive. That suspicious person matched the description of Hather.

Hather was detained and the victim identified him as the man who had tried to climb in through her window. He was booked into Santa Clara County Main Jail on suspicion of burglary.
