Fire quickly contained near North Monterey County High School Monday

North Monterey County firefighters on Monday afternoon responded to a quarter-acre fire that ignited in a brushy area at the Monte del Lago mobile home park.

The call came in just before 2 p.m. Nearby structures and vehicles at Monte del Lago were threatened, but the North Monterey County Fire Department was able to contain the fire within 15 minutes with no damage to the property.

Nearby North Monterey County High School was alerted to the incident but officials said the students weren’t in danger and no shelter in place advisory was issued.

Fire crews said dry vegetation caused the fire to burn quickly.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation. The fire department is also investigating the cause of an eight-acre fire behind the high school that occurred last week to determine if there’s any connection.
