Devastating fire displaces more than 40 people in Salinas

More than 40 people were displaced after a fire ripped through a Salinas apartment complex on Saturday.

On Sunday, additional people whose homes were not burned were asked to leave because there is no electricity or running water.

The fire broke out Saturday afternoon on the 1300 block of Garner Avenue. At least five apartments and several cars were burnt down, the Salinas Fire Department said.

They added it took 14 engines and 80 firefighters to extinguish the fire.

On Sunday, several of the displaced people told News Channel 5 they lost everything they had and they don’t know how they will survive.

The Red Cross is helping families find shelter.

Firefighters said wind played a factor in the spread of the fire, but the cause of it is still under investigation.
