Multiple grass fires reported on Highway 101 in Salinas

UPDATE: 6:00pm: CHP said northbound lanes of Highway 101 should be re-opening shortly between the Laurel and Boronda exits after several spot fires started in dry brush along the highway Thursday night.

Salinas Fire said the small burns totaled about 3 acres; fire crews were most worried about a stretch of open fields behind homes near Alvin and Cherokee Drives.

Portions of Highway 101 in Salinas are being closed down around 5 p.m. Thursday as crews respond to a series of grass fires.

The fires have been reported by Laurel and Boronda.
