San Diego college ropes off building over Ebola scare

Officials say staff at a college campus in San Diego County roped off a classroom building out of fear over the Ebola virus after a student told her instructor that she was missing class because her sister was hospitalized with flu-like symptoms.

Southwestern College initially said in a statement on its Facebook page that county health officials were on their way to the campus in Chula Vista, south of San Diego.

About an hour later, the college posted: “NO EBOLA ON SOUTHWESTERN COLLEGE CAMPUS” and said health officials were not on their way.

College and county officials did not return calls seeking comment.

According to the posting, the student and her family traveled to the Midwest last week, and when they returned the student’s sister was hospitalized with flu-like symptoms.
