New Salinas documentary to premiere at Carmel International Film Festival

A new documentary focused on Salinas will make its California debut on Saturday as part of the Carmel International Film Festival.

“The Salinas Project” follows the lives of four young Latinos in Salinas as they face social, political and economic constraints.

The filmmaker is Carolyn E. Brown, a journalism professor at American University in Washington, D.C. and an award-winning filmmaker.

Her previous work includes “From the Fields: An American Journey,” a documentary distributed to NBC affiliates across the country in 2012. It tells the story of Damian Trujillo, a Bay Area-based NBC reporter who grew up working in the fields in the Salinas Valley.

“The Salinas Project” will be screened at the new Carmel High Performing Arts Center on Saturday, Oct. 18 at 2 p.m. Tickets are $10. Brown is expected to be in attendance.
