Fire extinguished near North Monterey County High School Thursday

A fire that broke out along Castroville Boulevard in a field near North Monterey County High School Thursday was contained to just under nine acres.

Twenty-five firefighters were brought in from around the region to put out the fire, according to North Monterey County Fire Chief Chris Orman.

The cause is under investigation but fire crews do have a person of interest they are talking to.

The high school was not evacuated, and no structures were threatened
