Work begins on San Clemente Dam project next week

About 40 people attended a meeting Tuesday night to hear from Cal Am and Granite Construction officials on the status and progress of the San Clemente Dam removal project.

Work on the project will continue through November and start to close up shop in December. Over the summer, crews worked to re-route the river in the San Clemente Creek. To do so, they had to create a new channel, deepen it and re-shape the flow into the creek which will essentially become the new river.

Next year the dam will come out

As part of the permit for Cal Am to do this, the county said they had to make road improvements in Carmel Valley.

Those road improvements will start next week and continue for five weeks.

During the paving improvements, one lane in the village will be closed at a time and a pilot car will be used to lead opposing traffic. Work will be done from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the village during the first phase of the project, and from8 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the second phase, which will take place east of Esquiline Road.

Further updates on the project are here.
