Hayward man, 20, suspected of stabbing his mom to death

Police have arrested a Northern California man suspected of stabbing his mother to death.

Hayward police spokesman Mark Ormsby said officers responding to a report of a stabbing at home Saturday evening found a 57-year-old woman lying on the ground suffering from stab wounds.

She was declared dead at the scene.

Ormsby said the woman’s 20-year-old son, Joseph Badiali, had told a neighbor he stabbed his mother and stayed at the scene. Police said he cooperated with officers and was arrested on suspicion of murder.

Badiali is reportedly a student at UC Santa Cruz who had apparently come home for the weekend.

Investigators were trying to determine the motive of the stabbing.
