Man in custody after woman stabbed in Seaside

A 22-year-old is behind bars after a stabbing in Seaside Thursday afternoon.

Police responded to a report of a stabbing victim inside a Flores Street home around 12:30 p.m.

The suspect, Victor Vasquez, was still inside the home. He surrendered to police and was taken into custody.

The victim, a 40-year-old woman, was airlifted to a Bay Area hospital for treatment. She is in stable condition and is expected to recover, police said.

Vasquez lives with the woman, who is a relative of his, though police have not said how the two are related.

According to Seaside police, the attack was unprovoked and Vasquez has a history of mental illness. He’s being held in Monterey County Jail on suspicion of attempted murder.
