Gilroy woman charged with stabbing fellow Gilroy resident Saturday

Gilroy police have arrested a 38-year-old woman for attempted murder after a stabbing Saturday.

Officers responded to the 300 block of Wellburn Avenue for a reported stabbing and found a 42-year-old woman suffering from multiple stab wounds to her upper body. She was airlifted to a trauma center for treatment and is currently listed as being in critical condition. She’s expected to survive.

Tanika Billie Johnson, 38, of Gilroy was arrested shortly afterward. Police say there was a verbal confrontation between the two women before the stabbing.

No motive has been released.

Johnson was booked into Santa Clara County Jail and is expected to be arraigned Wednesday on a felony charge of attempted murder.
