Suspect threatens to shoot campers in Big Sur Saturday

Monterey County deputies now have a man in custody after they say he threatened to shoot other campers on Nacimiento-Ferguson Road in Big Sur Saturday.

Deputies say when they contacted the suspect, 53-year-old Oleg Sinitsin, he was found in possession of a flare gun that had been converted into a short-barreled shotgun.

The flare gun was capable of firing .410 gauge shotgun shells, according to deputies.

Deputies also found ammunition at the scene.

In addition, the suspect had a crossbow and a pellet rifle.

Deputies say nobody was injured and Sinitsin was booked into county jail on several charges.
