New mural unveiled, scholarship announced at Sun Street Centers in Salinas

A new mural was unveiled Friday at Sun Street Centers in Salinas to honor long-time board member and past president Anne C. Leach.

The mural’s unveiling corresponded with the announcement of the creation of the Anne C. Leach Scholarship Fund, which will benefit men without the financial means to attend it’s residential drug and alcohol abuse treatment program.

Each recovery scholarship will fund the program fees for one man who cannot afford to participate in Sun Street Centers’ men’s residential recovery program. Fundraising for the scholarship fund will take place in the form of a brick campaign that will include engraved bricks with personal messages of hope from donors.

The bricks will become part of a permanent road of bricks around Sun Street Centers’ facility at 11 Peach Drive.

Sun Street Centers, founded in 1968, has a mission of preventing and treating alcohol and drug addition through education and treatment for individuals and families.
