Salinas man sentenced to 3 years in prison for sex abuse, child abandonment

A Monterey County Superior Court judge sentenced a 25-year-old Salinas man to three years in prison for child molestation and child abandonment.

According to prosecutors, a woman reported walking in on Jacobo Ortiz Roque sexually abusing her 5-year-old child in January. Roque fled before police arrived, taking his 4-year-old child with him. He abandoned her days later.

Roque was located and arrested about a month later.

Upon release from prison, Roque must register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.
