Rico Street sidewalk improvement project starts in Castroville Friday

Construction on a sidewalk improvement project on Rico Street in Castroville is slated to begin Friday, Sept. 12.

Work will be done between Merritt Street (Route 183) and McDougall Street. The project consists of curb, gutter, sidewalk, drainage, driveways, relocation of signs, handicap ramps and roadway improvements. The project is expected to be complete by the end of October.

Temporary traffic control measures, include lane closures, will occur. Local residents will continue to have access to this road section during the construction period. However, motorists are encouraged to seek an alternate route during the construction period.

The total cost of the Rico Street Sidewalk Improvement is $181,676, which is funded by a Livable Communities Grant from the Transportation Agency for Monterey County and Gas Tax Funds.
