Hollister Police Department will get high-tech camera system
Updated Tuesday, Sept. 9:
The Hollister Police Department could soon be getting a high-tech video system installed in most of its patrol units. On Monday, City Council approved the department’s request, which won’t cost the city a penny.
The system, called 4RE, was created by WatchGuard. Using two cameras, officers will be able to record in high definition and connect to a server wirelessly.
It was created to track the moves of officers and everyone they make contact with from beginning to end. It captures a potential violation, initial contact they make, all the way to an arrest.
Hollister police said they like how the video captures incidents with an objective eye. It saves and stores video on its own. Officers have no way to alter or edit footage.
The system would cost $87,000 for 16 patrol cars.
The grant money would come from the Community and Corrections Partnership and the Board of State Community and Corrections.
