One killed after car catches fire in Scotts Valley early Monday morning

One person died early Monday after their car failed to negotiate a turn, struck a tree and caught fire.

California Highway Patrol officers said the driver was headed northbound on La Madrona Drive in Scotts Valley just before 2 a.m. when the accident occurred.

The driver was stuck in the SUV, according to CHP. No one else was in the car.

The driver’s name and gender have not been released pending autopsy results from the Santa Cruz County Coroner’s office.
