Nearly 400 children participate in this year’s Junior Giants program in Santa Cruz County

Almost 400 kids took part in this year’s Junior Giants program, sponsored by the Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office Activities League.

Junior Giants is a free, non-competitive, innovative baseball program for boys and girls ages 5-18 years old. The program’s success is credited to the all the volunteer s who donated their time and effort throughout this season.

The program focuses on developing confidence, integrity, leadership and teamwork. Classes in education, health and violence prevention are also offered in conjunction, as well as a summer reading program.

The teams played every Saturday for a total of eight weeks. The Santa Cruz and Watsonville League played at Monte Vista and Pinto Lake Park this year. Our Live Oak League partnered with the Live Oak Resource Center and played at Green Acres School in Live Oak.
