Former Salinas sign language interpreter sentenced to jail, probation on sex-related charges

A sign language interpreter who previously worked at North Salinas High School has been sentenced to three years of probation and one year in Monterey County Jail for felony exhibition of harmful material to a minor, misdemeanor child molestation, and battery.

Adam Frogel, 56, of Nevada pleaded no contest to the charges in July.

Authorities at North Salinas High School contacted Salinas police in March to report allegations of inappropriate contact between Frogel and a deaf student. Frogel was accused of inappropriately touching a 15-year-old and 16-year-old over their clothes, and asking another teen to have sexual relations with him.

At the time, Frogel was an employee of Sunbelt Staffing which contracts with North Salinas High School to provide sign interpreters.

Frogel was sentenced on Sept. 5. He will have to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life
