Gas leak evacuates 4 homes on El Camino Real in Carmel

A gas leak in Carmel prompted the temporary evacuation of four homes Friday afternoon, PG&E officials confirmed.

PG&E spokesman Monica Tell says a third-party contractor was doing work at a building in the area of El Camino Real between 11th and 12th avenues when they struck a three-inch line.

Tell said four homes in the vicinity of the leak were evacuated earlier, but residents were allowed back into their homes late Friday afternoon.

Utility crews were on scene along with emergency responders. No injuries have been reported at this time.
