Water restored in Monterey neighborhood after early morning water main break

An earlymorning water main break in Monterey, on Thursday, left a neighborhoodwithout waterfor more than an hour.

California American Water received reports about the break on Via Campana Street at about four in the morning.

Crews shut off the water approximately 30 minutes after the worn-out pipe burst.

Workers estimate 60 to 80 gallons of water per minute spewed out of the pipeand into the street. In all, about 24 hundred gallons of waterwere lost.

By six in the morning,thepipe had been repaired andwater had been restoredfor the 20 or so homesin the area.
