State officials still searching for inmate who walked away from Ben Lomond camp

Officials with the California Department of Corrections said they are still looking for a minimum-security inmate who walked away from a camp in the San Lorenzo Valley this week.

John Collard, 56, left the Ben Lomond Conservation Camp on September 2. He was there as part of an inmate fire crew.

Collard is believed to have left in a white 2006 Ford four-door pickup and officials believe he may be trying to disguise the truck using magnetic signage.

Prison officials believe Collard might have planned the escape. Citizens should not approach him if they see him but should call 911 or law enforcement authorities immediately.

Anyone having information about or knowledge of the location of John Collard should call the California Correctional Center watch commander at 530-257-2181 extension 4173.

Collard is a white man, about 5’7″ and 155 pounds with green eyes and gray hair. He was committed to the state prison system in February 2013 out of Monterey County, where he was convicted of making criminal threats, resisting arrest by threat of violence and illegally possessing a firearm. He was scheduled to be released from the state prison system in January 2018.
