Annual “Best Buddies Challenge” bicycle ride sets off Saturday in Carmel

Dozens of bicyclists will ride from Carmel to San Simeon along Highway 1 Saturday as part of the 11th annual Best Buddies Challenge.

The ride will begin at 7 a.m. at Carmel Valley Road in Carmel. All riders will be off the road by 4 p.m. on San Simeon Road near Hearst Castle in San Simeon.

California Highway Patrol officers will provide traffic control in the form of rolling closures beginning at 6 a.m. Electronic message boards will be posted to alert motorists to “share the road” with cyclists.

Motorists can expect delays not to exceed 15 minutes.

Caltrans reminds motorists to be aware of these cyclists and any support vehicles.
