Woman accused of bringing gun into Santa Cruz County Courthouse

Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s deputies say they confiscated a gun Thursday morning from a 19-year-old woman attempting to bring it into the courthouse.

Brisa Santillan was coming into the courthouse on Ocean Street in Santa Cruz with her six-month-old child to visit her child’s father, who was due in court.

During screening at the front entrance, a security guard and a deputy found a loaded .25 caliber pistol in her purse.

Deputies confiscated the gun, arrested Santillan and requested Child Protective Services to care for her child.

Santillan faces multiple felony charge, including carrying a loaded firearm, bringing a firearm into a courthouse, and child endangerment.
