Mountain lion in California city hid for hours

GPS data shows a mountain lion that wandered into a San Francisco Bay Area city last month hid behind a hedge on a busy street for nine hours.

Chris Wilmers, the lead researcher for the Santa Cruz Puma Project, says the cat left the hedge in Mountain View late in the afternoon and walked around the city, avoiding people for another 3 hours before it was spotted.

Wilmers wrote about the cat’s adventure in a blog that was reported by the San Francisco Chronicle on Wednesday.

The cat had a tracking collar that allowed its movements to be pinpointed.

It was eventually tranquilized and removed, but not before it sent people scurrying.

Wilmers says the cat’s movements show the need for wildlife travel corridors between wilderness areas.
