Greenfield Police: Victim of Monday night shooting has died

A man shot Monday night in Greenfield died of his injuries early Tuesday morning, Greenfield police said.

Monterey County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to reports of a shooting on the 300 block of Pasque Avenue around 9:40 p.m. Monday but couldn’t locate the victim.

Greenfield fire said authorities were told the person was taken to a hospital by a private vehicle.

Police went to Mee Memorial Hospital, where they found Albert Tapia, 39, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was in critical condition and later died just before 2 a.m.

Officers recovered several spent shell casings from the scene. No one has been taken into custody and police are continuing to investigate.
