Highway 1 crash kills 68-year-old Watsonville woman

California Highway Patrol officers confirmed that a 68-year-old woman is dead after a rollover accident Sunday on Highway 1 North.

According to the CHP Incident webpage, witnesses told officers the car was passing stopped traffic on the right hand shoulder near Rio Del Mar just before 11:30 a.m.

Officers closed down one lane of traffic but it was reopened just before 2 p.m.

The Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Coroner on Monday identified the woman as Nancy Bartels of Watsonville.
