Santa Cruz police introduced its newest member of the Santa Cruz Police Department Monday.

Officer Scott Freeman was sworn-in by Chief Kevin Vogel.

The department said Freeman brings in some solid policing skills and knowledge.

Freeman had 12 years of experience at the Scotts Valley Police Department where he worked as a training officer, detective, and team member for their SWAT.

He is an Army veteran where he was a sergeant and served as a Special Agent for United States Counter-Intelligence.

Santa Cruz Police Department has hired 16 officers over the past year. It is currently up to full staffing. Those numbers include four hires currently in the academy, and eight that are currently out on long-term injuries.
