Slashed pelican recovers ‘fast,’ to be released

A bird rescue organization says a pelican found with its pouch slashed in Long Beach has made an incredibly fast recovery and can be released.

Pink, a California brown pelican nicknamed for the color of its leg band, was found wounded on April 16. It took two surgeries and about 600 stitches to sew Pink up.
Rebecca Duerr (DOO-ur), a veterinarian at International Bird Rescue, says Pink is healed and ready to live in the wild. The organization plans to release Pink on Tuesday in a park near the Los Angeles harbor.

Donors have contributed $20,000 toward a reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of Pink’s attacker.
