King City Appoints Interim Chief During Investigation

City Manager Michael Powers has appointed Dennis Hegwood as Interim Chief of Police for King City, after six police officers, including the acting and former chiefs, were arrested.

Hegwood began work late Wednesday night, and his first full day of work is Thursday.

Hegwood is a former Marine, who has served communities in Seal Beach, Los Angeles, Rialto, and Riverside County.

He has over 30 years of law enforcement experience, as well as an extensive educational background.

He holds a Master’s Degree in Management from California Polytechnic State University, Pomona and a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice from California State University, Long Beach.

He has attended Executive Development Training at the FBI Academy in Quantico, Virginia and is a graduate of California’s Peace Officer Standards and Training Command College.

He is also a Criminal Justice instructor at Cuesta College in San Luis Obispo.
